Cringing Cult of Celebrity (Famous residents and ex-residents.)

  • wap ma namanama - Fat Boys slim
  • the boxer guy of course who drives a huge truck, ive actually forgotten his name for the moment
  • Paul (I'm the MOST FAMOUS Beatle) bore, and that big-mouthed female journalist Julie Birchwhatsit who sold out for money...
  • Cate Blanchett, Her husband, and their Two Kids owns Two really Big Georgian Castles In Brighton for $50,000,000.
  • the levelers yeah !
  • Fat Boy Slim
  • Contrary to one previous note The Levellers didn't get their name form "a piece of land called The Level" Should have maybe listened more in history lessons!
  • chris eubank - used to mince around it a truck - now can be seen mincing around in a hummer
  • have you seen the bbc southern counties website mapo of celebs~? its pityfull.
  • People who 'reside here' are Jordan and Peter Andre, Paul Mccartney, Brian Capron, and loads of other Z'listers.
  • chris eubank?
  • Keith Flint from the Prodigy, I saw him and his HOT chick both wearing Army cargos, carrying Motobike Helmets down the lanes near the 'Biddi' shop in the summer of 2003. Some little shit, managed to collar him and get him to speak to his mate on the phone. I just wanted to let him know that Voodoo People is an Awesome track, but Im sure he already know that.
  • erm...Jorden! she lives in my godparent's old house! eww!
  • No one mentioned Jordan!!!! How could you forget her!!! Oh yeah and my mum said she saw her and Peter Andre at the marina the other day continuing their farcical relationship. I think she's moved away now but you'll still see her about sometimes. I've seen her 3 times in 7 years in the flesh and i've seen her with her flesh out countless times and so have you probably, and i've seen her getting done by Dane Bowers in a porn. She's such a dickhead, I am envious of her riches though. And how could you forget Daniella Westbrook and her late septum!?! I saw some bloke who used to be on the Bill yesterday. Baby Spice used to live in an expensive flat down the seafront. I think Naomi Campbell might have a house here.
  • Jordan has a house here and that guy from the fast show and Grass(the pub owner)
  • Fatboy Slim, Chris Eubank, The Levellers, Peter and the Test Tube Babies, Nick Berry
  • Nick Cave lives here, somewhere in hove so does mark williams of Fast Show
  • I met Dr. Legg (from Eastenders) down there in The Lanes, he was played by Leonard Fenton and what bushy eyebrows he had. Also met the chap who used to host Picture Box when I was a kid. Paul McGann smoking copious amounts of cigarettes in O'Neills. Norman Cook and Zoe Ball. Also, a bloke called Steve something-or-other who used to host crap kids' Saturday tv programme Motormouth in the mid-90's.
  • Guy McKnight and the Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster hail from sunny Brighton.
  • Zoe Ball and Norman Cook Chris Eubank.
  • eubanks an embarresment to the town
  • Helen Zahavi, who wrote the definitive Brighton novel, "Dirty Weekend", used to live in the Brunswick area.
  • Genesis P-Orridge: ex-Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV frontman and Temple Ov Psychic Youth honcho, lived here before his "triggered exile" to the U.S.A.
  • Fat boy slim,Amir williams(sponsered by 360clothes,blueskin,also in new heroin video.
  • The only celebs I've seen in Brighton are Chris Eubank at Brighton Station, Zoe Ball and Fat Boy Slim in Waitrose and one of the Fast Show (the guy who played Jesse "This week I'll mostly be..") walking along Western Road telling whoever he was with he'll never drink again!
  • If I ever see Julie Birchill, I've got a list of over nine hundred quibbles with her air-head Guardian column to fire at her. Dollar fans should look out for David Van day serving burgers and chips from his mobile van.
  • Professor Flynn (Errol Flynn's dad) had a house here.
  • Patsy Rowlands from the later Carry on films lives somewhere in Brighton or hove I've seen her loads of times on Western road.
  • Chris Eubank ... occasionally seen around in his his huge yank truck holding up traffic.
  • The fabulously out-spoken journalist Julie Burchill! She's the only newspaper columnist with an ounce of intelligence and perspective this side of Armageddon, probably the best thing about her being that fact that she isn't in thrall to the pathetic celebrity obsession that seems to have gripped pretty much every one else on this fair isle of ours! Annie Nightingale - one of the best DJ's to have ever graced our conservative airwaves - (Jo "it's about the music" Whiley eat ya heart out), and one of the finest full-on party goers ever - she's put most students to shame even now! Long may she live!
  • OOh, saw Gaz from Supergrass yesterday, Zoe Ball shops in our local Tescos, saw Mark Williams and one of the McGanns at Brighton Station.....
  • The Levellers and their dirty flea-ridden following, who are actually all nouveau riche middle class dropouts who sleep at their parents when things get a little bit chilly.
  • Apparentely, Steve Coogan has moved from the Level, to where they all seem to end up....in Hove! He just bought a nice little house a stones throw away from Chris Ewbank, just off the Drive. I think it was a pressie to himself after getting a contract for another TV show.
  • Fat Boy Slim Tampasam Chris Eubank
  • Steve Ovett (Olympic runner) went to Varndean and the Art College. His dad ran (runs?) a greengrocery stall in the market by The Level. Dora Bryan (comedienne) has a hotel on the seafront.
  • Steve Coogan of Partridge fame (who lives near the Level) and Gaz Coombes (lead singer of Supergrass) who also resides in Brighton.
  • famous people= chris eubank! has a place in hove actually, and owns flats near 7dials.. great fella, not a boxtha!.. also Emma Wing (Lou Beale, ex Eastenders) chris 'burnise' ellison, carol barnes, captain sensible, etc! the late great lord olivier also lived in rhe seafront, royal crescent i do believe! Chris 'burnside' ellison, Joe (or Paul?) McGann, Carol barnes, etc!! come on, keep up!!
  • Mark Little, James Whale, The bolnde one from Quadrophenia, Mrs Mcluskey from Grange Hill. My next door neighbour was in 'Back Up' and Norman Cook/Fatballs Slim of course.
  • How could you not mention Norman Cook aka FATBOY SLIM lives right here in Brighton also has a residency at the Club "the Beach" every week.
  • Too many to mention all of them.... Bobbie Gillespie (Primal Scream), lots of cast members from The Bill, The Levellers....
  • The Levellers are from Brighton. They got their name from a piece of land called The Level. Sally Gunnell lives here.

Buskers, Street Entertainers

  • Carly Bryant - busker who stands outside the pump house in the south lanes! carlybryant@moonfruit.com
  • The Fridge Magnets (a little swing band with a one string bass).
  • "10 pence". Tall, Bearded vagrant who originally hung out in the East St area of Brighton town centre in the 1980's. His Catchphrase was "Can you spare 10 pence sir?. Last spotted 2006 in Trafalgar St, Portslade. Featured in "Brighton The Game" as I remember.
  • u wouldnt class this man as a street entertainer but he did spend a lot of time on the streets on his skate board! bobby g of the logos which was a team way back in the 70's around the same sort of time as dogtown, the street kids who shook it all up,he was also frequently in a skate mag called funnily enough skateboard! (there was a uk version too!) well hes been living in brighton for the last 20 years and i know this cos hes my dad! so posibly this should have gone inthe cringing cult of celebrity but hes not after any status i just thought it was a cool fact for u skate lovers to know the inventor of the lipslide lives in your town and drinks in a lil pub on hove sea front! u can find him on myspace.com look up robbie gillam
  • most peiple in brighton are mad!
  • loads of great guys, funny ginger alcholic, whos very good with his harmonica, theres gary who plays excellent claranette in the pavilion gardens, the amazing black guy who plays the must beautiful music on a thumb piano (or a larger one- dont know what its called)I bought a cd i liked it so much. and rick (i think) who plays slide guitar
  • The guy who plays the geeetaar in George Steet, Hove, come rain or shine: he's a real cheerer-upper, as opposed to kids sitting on the pavement outside the Co-op in Blatchington Road begging for 'change': the only change they need is attitude and rehab.
  • there used to be this lady hanging around the lanes dressed as a fairy, singing and strumming a guitar. it was great!
  • northern matt watching him ride is an education in itself
  • lots of buskers in the lanes, some are crap but others worth chucking a quid
  • Back in time *** I live in Australia now... but I once saw Helen Terry busking in The Lanes... She was great and within a few weeks she was singing on Top Of The Pops with Culture Club.... I'd love to know if she was 'spotted' as a busker. A few years on I saw Amita Dhiri from "This Life" outside the coffee shop that's near Waitrose on Montpelier Rd. I've just googled and found she's a Brighton girl... see I told you so. Saw Gaz from Supergrass at the same cafe... but everyone seems to have seen him. Nowadays I'm spotting characters from The Secret Life of Us set in St Kilda, Melbourne... but they've just axed that.
  • Cat Woman. She made cat noises. There was a woman who used to go to churchill sq wraped in toilet paper and prance about. havent seen her for a while.
  • Cate Blanchett lives in Kemptown and I think Gary Moore lives in Hove.
  • u ever seen the asian lady in new church road? i wud be prety bored if i sat on my wall all day. who or what is she waiting for? tell me sum 1 fu_cky_ou1@hotmail.com - Daffy
  • the man in the Pavilion Gardens who plays the sax really sets the scene on a summers evening...
  • The many bad trannies of seven dials.
  • the lanes
  • My favourite 'street entertainer' is the woman who makes a habit of 'accidentally' dropping her handbag then denying it's hers! Maybe she should go in the Local Celebrities section too...
  • There used to be this old boy who used to busk at Churchhill square (prior to its redevelopment). His act consisted of him dancing and miming to old pre war tunes from a tape recorder. He immaculatly dressed and on several occasions he had his war medals on display, together with a picture of himself as a young man in his military uniform. He was nearly bent double with age, it was a pitiful and depressing sight.
  • Bloody anywhere. Especially during May while the festival is on.
  • I thought I saw The Levellers in West Street. And they were arse too
  • was good in / around Churchill Square. also at Hanningtons- occasional fire eater??
  • Say hello to The Living Statue - usually to be found near the Druids Head in the Lanes on Saturday afternoons.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Brighton. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Brighton.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
